The main seating area is upstairs via the original stairwell and has seating for around 40. With downstairs, bar and outdoor seating, the restaurant is set for approximately 100 people. Located at 1147 Sevier Ave., Landing House operates out of a blue house with a large yard across the street from Alliance Brewery in South Knoxville. Opened in July 2017, they serve a variety of dishes based on Asian cuisine, with seating available throughout the house. Instead, they look toward what they need to do for the restaurant going forward. They talked about building an overhead roof for the front yard, expanding the kitchen to meet demand and bringing back their karaoke night sometime soon. Both Chinese and Cambodian, Hao Land grew up with several of these dishes. Along with what they cook at home and Zach’s other restaurant experience, the Land couple wanted to bring their signature style of cooking to the people of Knoxville.
Safe Landing is scheduled to begin accepting people, including those under the influence, this month. Brett Honeycutt did the construction and Rob Truka did the carpentry and designed the bar which features six different kinds of hardwood. With the different wood tones and chevron design, it’s definitely something to notice when you visit. You’ll likely encounter Hao and Anne operating the front of the house while Ian and Zach will hold down the behind-the-scenes operation. He’d most recently worked at Lonesome Dove, but he’s also worked with Thomas Keller at Bouchon Bakery and Suzanne Goin at Lucques.
The food is delightful and they have really nice cocktails. The addition of the shaded areas (because I was here before all that!) was such a good move. Would recommend to all who visit the South Knox area. The menu includes only ten items, but offers options for a variety of ways they might be prepared.
Hao had been a long-time manager at Preservation Pub. Zach and Hao Land also talked about their favorite dishes on the menu, mentioning a variety of dishes like the Pho, Pork Belly and Veggie Stir Fry as ones that they eat whenever they can. They bought the house to potentially move into it, but decided instead to build a restaurant. Hao Land said that she was also inspired by a similar restaurant that she used to visit while growing up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as well as friends telling them that they should open up a restaurant.
